Charlie Polinger gives an update on the Masque of Red Death adaptation. James Gunn shoots down another wild Man of Tomorrow rumor. Plus, what’s coming on the new season of Primal. It’s the first spoilers of 2026!
Avengers: Doomsday
Cassie Lang actress Kathryn Newton shared a photo of herself on social media [via Avengers Updates] wearing an Avengers: Doomsday hat at Disneyland, leading outlets like Comic Book to speculate she’s both in the film and may be the first member of the rumored Young Avengers team.
Relatedly, Tom Hiddleston revealed to GQ that Avengers: Doomsday follows up on Loki’s “glorious purpose” gained at the end of his own spinoff series.
My contribution has been contributed. It is monumental. The centre of the story is absolutely brilliant, and was so surprising when I read it. It just has never been done before.
Man of Tomorrow
In response to a fan on Threads, James Gunn answered “nope” when asked if Wonder Woman appears in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.
Untitled Joseph Konsinski Project
On the latest episode of Deadline‘s Behind the Lens, Joseph Kosinski stated his upcoming UFO movie (once described as a “UFO disclosure-themed take on All the President’s Men,” per World of Reel) is “science fact” rather than science fiction.
You think it’s science fiction, but I think we’re finding out it’s science facts. So that’s what the film is about, and I think you know it’s one of those things that I think everyone will want to go see.
We’re working with two people who are at the very center of the topic. So, you know, the conversations with them are just fascinating […] It’s a very exciting project, and trying to get that ready as soon as possible.
The Masque of the Red Death
Director Charlie Polinger provided GoldDerby with an update on his adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death which he describes as a “high-energy dark comedy” starring Mikey Madison.
I’m actually currently in Budapest right now, doing pre-production scouts for it, which is shooting here in February. I don’t know if I can say too much about it, but it’s with A24 and yes, Mikey Madison is starring in it. It’s a very high-energy dark comedy, also about a plague in a way, but it’s extremely different. It’s set in medieval times and takes place in a castle for the most part. It explores some similar group dynamics. But it’s just a very different genre and it’s more comedic.
Primate
Surprising no one, Bloody-Disgusting has confirmed Johannes Roberts’ Primate has been rated “R” for “strong bloody violent content, gore, language,” and perhaps somewhat surprisingly, “some drug use.”
Primal
Finally, Adult Swim has released a full trailer for the third season of Primal, premiering January 11 on Adult Swim.
