The New ‘Welcome to Derry’ Trailer Welcomes You to Hell on Earth

Our previous looks at It: Welcome to Derry focused on some more grounded, realer evils lurking at the heart of a small town in ’60s Maine—cops, racism, sexism, the titular Derry has them all. But now we’re getting closer to the show’s debut, HBO wants to remind you that things are going to get somehow even worse for the residents of Derry. Much, much worse.

Just over a month before the show hits streaming, today HBO dropped our biggest look yet at It: Welcome to Derry, unveiling a glimpse at the horrors to come when Pennywise (the returning Bill Skarsgård) makes his arrival known.

The trailer starts much like our prior looks at the series, as we follow the arrival of a young Black family, the Hanlons (Charlotte and Leroy, played by Taylour Paige and Jovan Adepo, respectively). But their arrival in the community, at a time when children start going missing, stokes up old hatreds and prejudices… only for things to quickly become much darker than they already seem, not just for the Hanlons but for everyone in Derry, with the arrival of a strange falling comet heralding new, petrifying evils. And that’s even before a creepy clown starts showing up!

Inspired by the flashback sequences in Stephen King’s beloved horror novel, Welcome to Derry also stars James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Chris Chalk. Chalk plays Dick Hallorann, a character with close ties to the flashbacks in It but best known for his roles in two other King novels, The Shining and Doctor Sleep.

It: Welcome to Derry hits HBO and HBO Max October 26.
