The New ‘Batman’ Run Is 2025’s Best-Selling Comic Yet

Two weeks after Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez’s Batman began, it’s already hit a massive milestone.

According to a press release, the inaugural comic has sold over 500,000 copies, making it the current top-selling comic of 2025.

As the Hollywood Reporter notes, Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #1 from Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley, and Annalisa Leoni and Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee’s Batman #158—the start of their still-ongoing Hush sequel, which Fraction and Jiménez’s run is set after—take second and third place, respectively, with over or around 400,000 copies sold.

The latest Batman comic has reportedly sold out with physical distributors and will launch a second printing in October. It’s the fourth renumbering for the superhero in his 84-year history, with the last two being Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo in 2011 as part of the “New 52” and Tom King and David Finch for 2016’s “Rebirth.”

Fraction told THR he went to Portland’s Rose City Comic Convention the weekend his Batman #1 launched, where he “felt such a thunderous, immediate embrace from readers. It was an astonishing end to an incredible week, and it’s only the beginning.” He’s the latest high-profile writer to take over the book, following Chip Zdarsky, who took over in 2022 after Joshua Williamson. All three have had Jiménez on primary art duty during their individual runs.

Speaking of Batman, THR also highlighted Snyder and Dragotta’s Absolute Batman. The 2024 book, which launched as part of DC’s alt-universe “Absolute” series, offers a younger, beefier take on the character who works as an engineer and whose mother is still alive. The first Absolute issue sold over 200,000 copies and is now on its ninth printing. The entire Absolute line, which also stars Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Martian Manhunter, has sold “well into the millions of copies.”
