Pay negotiations between the New South Wales government and transport unions will continue today, to try and keep trains running .
Premier Chris Minns will again meet with Rail, Tram and Bus union representatives.
If no agreement is reached, trains from Newcastle to Wollongong and across Sydney will stop from Friday morning until Sunday night.
The union wants a 32 per cent pay rise across four years, while the government has offered 11 per cent across three.
The United States has vetoed a United Nations resolution that calls for an immediate ceasefire in the war in Gaza because it is not linked to an immediate release of hostages taken captive by Hamas.
The 15-member Security Council voted 14-1 in favour of the resolution sponsored by the 10 elected members.
Unlike the five permanent members – the U.S., Russia, China, Britain and France – the elected members have no veto power.
Palestinian Deputy Permanent Observer to the United Nations Majed Bamya spoke in favour of the resolution.
“There is no right to mass killing of civilians. There is no right to starve an entire civilian population. There is no right to forcibly displace a people. And there is no right to annexation. This is what Israel is doing in Gaza.”
Firefighters have brought the blaze at the LUX nightclub under control and have have closed off Chapel Street in Prahran as they investigate.
The fire broke out just before 2 o’clock this morning and is being treated as suspicious.
Fire Incident Controller Mitch Simons has told the ABC the road could remain closed until lunchtime.
“We’ve had to close Chapel Street from the north part of Commercial Road to trams and traffic while we excavate the area with our aerial appliances. Unfortunately, that’s not going to be fixed probably before lunchtime today and we’ve got the local building surveyor coming down to assess the parapet wall out the front with a risk of any building collapse into Chapel Street.”
Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins has been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Two decades after her first success, the 41-year-old singer-songwriter was named the best Australian Live Act for her 2024 Australian tour ‘The Second Act’.
In response to her win and historic induction, she says the recognition is special.
“I really have to gather myself what an incredible honour it is to accept this award and to stand up here tonight in front of all you guys, my industry family, some of you have been touring alongside for over 23 years, and I feel so bloody fortunate to share this journey with you.”
She joins the likes of AC/DC, Nick Cave, and The Bee Gees in the Hall of Fame.

AFL Club Hawthorn has settled their Federal Court case with Indigenous former players and their families after mediation this week.
Racism allegations against the football club and its former coach, his former assistant and the club’s former welfare manager, were first aired publicly in 2022.
The club has now released a statement announcing the settlement and has apologised to the players and their families.
